The Book Thief. (Liesel.)- A strong, German girl who is left by her dad before she even knows who he is and then left by her mother.
Her little brother dies on the train on the way to their new foster family. She feels alone. She falls in love with her
foster dad instantly and, in time, learns to love her foster mom. She then gets used to the Jew that they have to hide
in the basement and makes a lot of new friends. After everything that could possibly happen, she perseveres through
it.
Rudy- A small, blonde, German boy, obsessed with Jesse Owens, an American runner. He has a house full of brothers and sisters. He's an athletic kid, boney, starving. In love with Liesel, "How about a kiss?" He's hopefully lost in love...
Tommy- Twitchy, deaf, young, German boy. He's always in trouble for not listening, but he's hopeless, until Liesel comes along.
Hans Hubberman.- "Papa" He likes to mess around, but knows exactly how to help and knows when to be serious. He is with Liesel through all of the hard times. He encourages her to do her best and is always by her side. He teaches her how to read and how to find her true self.
Frau Diller-Heil Hitler. She is a srict store-owner who makes you Heil Hitler before you can receive service.
Rosa Hubberman- "Mama" At first, she seems kind of harsh, but after a while you, learn to love her. She will protect you and love you... even if it's "tough love."
Max Vandenburg- A Jew hiding, alone. He finds the Hubermann household, and with it, he finds hope. He eventually becomes friends with the little foster girl, Liesel. When Papa helps out another Jew in public, putting Max in danger, Max has to move out. Eventually, he is caught by the Nazi's and marches through Munich, lonely, cold, dying, slowly dying.
Alex Steiner- Rudy's father. He is sent to the war and then comes back after the air raids.
Pfiffikus - An odd, grown man called "the whistler" by the neighborhood kids, only because he walks down the street, lonely, whistling to himself.
